about

I wrote Pearl in the Tide for the glue-sniffing, paper-bag-drinking bum, unsure where he'll find his next meal. The older I get, it seems, the harder it is to break free from my 401K, two-fisted, insulate-my-future self. The poor will always be among us; may we always be among them!

lyrics

Walk in my shoes tell me what you feel
Do your toes begin to bruise
Do your cuts take long to heal
City blocks for miles steel mill sniffing glue
No man giving smiles sharp eyes slicing you

I'm a paper bag drinker
A diamond hand thinker
My Missy’s on the phone calling home

I'm a boned up dinner
A strip club sinner
My Jimmy’s pumping pain to play the game

You wake up with the birds singing their sweet tune
Your apple’s got no worms
They picked them ripe for you
In your fat cat limousine your caviar and crabs
Your servants like machines waving palm tree fans

You're the gold mine digger
The sunshine killer
Your baby’s got a perm with a gal named Vern

Your backyard’s bigger
Than a prison’s guard’s trigger
Throw the chemicals in the pool for your kids in school
Throw the chemicals in the pool for your kids in school

I’m the night shift player car radiator shipwreck sailor ground elevator save it for later
'Til that milk can expires

You’re the speed boat cruiser blazing Appaloosa always got the juicer summers in Vancouver crystal ball future pearl in the tide

You're the crystal ball future pearl in the tide
